• S&P 500, Nasdaq hit record ahead of jobs report

  The Dow Jones Industrial Average tacked on 271 points, while the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 closed at fresh record highs. All but two sectors, healthcare and materials, posted gains. Investors celebrated a drop in weekly jobless claims with continuing claims falling to a pandemic-era low of 2.93 million filings. The data is viewed as a positive pre-cursor to the monthly jobs report due Friday.
