The commissioner of the top U.S. women's soccer league resigned amid criticism of the way she handled athletes' complaints about abuse by coaches.

The National Women's Soccer League announced Lisa Baird's resignation on the same day it canceled five games set for this weekend.

The league is home to some of the United States' most famous athletes — World Cup winners like Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd.
