• Debt ceiling deal lifts Dow 337 points, Nasdaq 1%

  U.S. stocks rose across the board after lawmakers reached a deal to raise the debt ceiling and will move toward a likely procedural vote Saturday. Consumer discretionary and material stocks led gains among the S&P's top sectors, while utilities slipped. UnitedHealth and Dow Chemical were the top performers in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
