  • Dow, S&P 500 gain, oil jumps despite strategic petroleum reserve tap

    U.S. stocks finished the session mixed with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ending the session higher, while the Nasdaq Composite drifted lower for a second session. Oil rose 2.3% to finish at $78.50 a barrel as the market called bluff on the White House plan to tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower energy prices and tame inflation.
