• Stocks mixed, GE shares surge on split plan

  U.S. stocks were mixed in early trading with the Nasdaq Composite seeing modest gains, while the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average pulled back. Investors took in another hot inflation reading with producer prices rising 8.6% year-over-year in October. In deal news, General Electric shares jumped over 7% after announcing plans to divide into three separate companies. In commodities, oil approached $83 per barrel.
