• Dow jumps 565 points, Nasdaq +3% on Apple strength

  U.S. stocks picked up momentum in the final hour of trading to close with solid gains for the day. Apple and Visa helped support the market after strong earnings, helping balance out weakness in Caterpillar and Chevron shares. For the week, all three of the averages closed with modest gains. In commodities, oil rose to $86.82 per barrel.
