• Dow jumps 272 points, oil hits $88 level

  U.S. stocks shrugged off a downside vibe to close with gains across the board as the month of February kicked off. Energy stocks led the S&P's leader board, helped by ExxonMobil's 6.4% jump, after its quarterly results exceeded estimates. In commodities, oil closed at $88.20 per barrel, the highest since October of 2014.
