C.D.C. advisers recommended Pfizer vaccine boosters for children 5 to 11, who will be eligible immediately upon the C.D.C. director's sign-off.

The experts said a booster shot of the vaccine would offer children an extra layer of protection at a time when infections and hospitalizations are once again rising nationwide. Boosters were recommended for adults in November and for children 12 and older in January.
